Puppy Consultations – helping you bring your new puppy home and successfully integrating them into your life and family

Black labrador. Bringing home new puppy. 8 week old puppy. Puppy training. Puppy biting. House training.

Are you getting or have you just got a new puppy?

One of the very best parts of my job is working with puppies and their owners. Now that may sound obvious – most people love puppies – but it’s not just because they are cute!

When someone calls me because they are planning to get or have just brought home a new puppy, it’s because they want to get things right and get off to a good start with their new family member and that’s what every dog trainer wants to hear! It is a huge privilege and responsibility to have the opportunity to help new puppy owners build a great relationship with their puppy; helping them to raise the dog that they want to be part of their family for the next 10-15 years.

Puppy Consultations are very much a bespoke service, tailored to you, your puppy and your life.

Some of the areas I cover with new puppy owners are:

  • Correct socialisation and habituation

  • House training

  • Crate training

  • Appropriate play and toys

  • Teaching your puppy about separation and isolation

  • Dealing with puppy biting or mouthing and preventing other undesirable behaviours such as jumping up

  • Creating structure for your puppy

  • Introducing basic puppy training

Following a Puppy Consultation I will write and send through a programme to follow and informational handouts or instructional videos to help owners follow through on the training we have begun together. Many of my clients will then go on to do more puppy training with me to further the skills they have begun to learn, and to support them as they progress and when putting things into practise in the big wide world once their puppy has completed their vaccinations.

If you have just got a puppy, this is the most ideal time to instil some key life lessons, begin your training and create a great bond with them. Having a puppy can be hard work but it should definitely be fun and rewarding! A young 8 week old puppy is soaking everything up like a sponge, so let it soak up all the right things!

Imagine the adult dog you will have in a year’s time and what you would like your life with that dog to look like – it all starts now!

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss bringing home a new puppy or book a Puppy Consultation or one to one puppy training session.

Dog and puppy training and behaviour sessions take place in my service area of Haywards Heath, Horsham and surrounding areas in West, Mid and East Sussex, as well as online, depending on your needs.
